A clear path to complete your APC
Some AssocRICS surveyors want to do as much fee-earning work as possible, while others prefer to focus on attaining full MRICS status as soon as they can. At SDL, we offer a structured APC training programme which boasts an 87% pass rate to date.
Make use of your RICS qualification
Do you have an RICS qualification that you aren’t fully utilising? We’ll support you in switching to a residential surveying specialism, helping you to pass your Valuer Registration Assessment in the process.
Support with studying for FRICS
FRICS status is a mark of distinction. It demonstrates that you have extensive experience and have made a long-term commitment to the surveying profession. At SDL, we support our team in achieving their fellowship ambitions.
Flexible working hours
We understand that many surveyors are parents too. At SDL, we offer flexible working hours and term-time contracts that can be adapted to provide a consistent monthly income.
Social networking groups
We recognise that surveyors can often feel isolated day-to-day. That’s why we’ve created social networking groups among surveying peers so our team can collaborate quickly and easily, rather than spending hours stumped by problems encountered in the field.
A great place to work
At SDL, we’ve created an attractive work environment that encourages our surveyors to enjoy a long relationship with our firm. We organise regular social events and offer subsidised healthy breakfasts, lunches, and gym memberships.
At SDL Surveying, we work with most major banks in the UK as the country’s largest independent provider of mortgage valuations. We also complete a range of private home surveys directly on behalf of consumers.
To carry out this surveying work, we employ VRS Registered, AssocRICS, MRICS and FRICS surveyors nationwide. And we’re constantly recruiting due to our strong business performance and growing market share!
We’re also always on the lookout for new people to join our vibrant operations team, which is based at our Nottinghamshire head office.
We always give our customers the best advice and do the right thing by them.
We act with integrity towards our colleagues and do the right thing in difficult situations.
We work in partnership with our network firms and back them to grow their businesses.
We share success with our people and back them to progress towards personal goals.
We create a better future for consumers by progressing mortgage transactions efficiently.
We create a better future for our planet by pioneering new technology.
At SDL Surveying, we celebrate diversity. We’re also passionate about bringing through the next generation of talent.
We believe that surveying should be an attractive career choice for all, irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
We have a zero-tolerance policy regarding any acts of aggression, discrimination, or abuse. This policy applies throughout our offices and to any employee carrying out our business in any other location.
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu
Area Surveyor & Network Trainer
I have achieved some incredible personal career milestones since joining SDL in 2016. With the company’s support, I passed my APC on the first attempt to become a chartered surveyor, and I won the “RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Award 2020 – Valuation”. I was also invited by the RICS to present ‘My Early Career Journey’ at the Global University Engagement Digital Event with UCEM Hong Kong.
In addition, SDL have also given me the opportunity to take on new responsibilities alongside my surveying work. Following my successful application, I was given the role of SDL Network Trainer. This means that I now spend some of my time helping to deliver training sessions to SDL’s network surveyors and panel firms, which has been great for my personal development.
Richard Graham
Area Surveyor
I joined SDL in 2020 following 19 years at my previous employers. I have to say I have not been disappointed at all. The management’s attitude towards their staff is a breath of fresh air. It’s a shock, but a nice one, to have a call from your manager just asking how you are!
Since joining, my health has improved. My blood pressure is lower, my blood sugar is more under control (I am a diabetic), and overall, I am feeling much healthier. More importantly others have commented on the positive changes in me too. The best thing about SDL is definitely the work-life balance… but having a Tesla as a company car isn't bad either!
My only regret is that I didn’t join SDL sooner.

Area Surveyor
SDL is a great place to work with a brilliant culture of teamwork. Colleagues are always prepared to go the extra mile and help each other out, whether it’s a small favour or a bigger task.
Even though I’m field based I still feel very much part of the SDL family, as there are plenty of extracurricular activities to get involved in. For example, I always get take part in the fundraising challenges and events which SDL organises, including a 5k 10-day challenge last year and an upcoming Yorkshire 3 peaks hike.
Since joining in 2019, my work life balance has been perfect. My role in the surveying field allows a certain degree of flexibility which makes life much easier and reduces stress.
